How You'll Make a Difference

Your scope of involvement may include:

  • Student Nutrition: Assisting with the service of breakfast and lunch
  • Instructional Support: Provide an extra set of hands in the classroom
  • Event Coordination: Assisting with special events (Book Fair, STEAM Day, Health & Wellness Fair) on campus
  • Child Care: Supervise and care for children while parents are learning to swim

Please read the information below before you continue with this application:

What is the Horizons Summer Program?
Horizons summer program, based at New Canaan Country School, serves close to 300 children in grades K-9 living primarily in Stamford and Norwalk. This six-week summer program provides academic classes in reading, writing and math, as well as a wide range of creative and fun enrichment activities like swimming, art, music and field trips. Each class has ten to twelve students, one Lead Teacher and one Teaching Assistant.

When will the Horizons summer program start and end?
The summer program will begin on June 26, 2026 and will end on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Can I still volunteer with Horizons if I can’t work the full day or for the full six weeks?
Yes! Volunteers have the ability to work on a flexible schedule, on an as needed basis. The type of responsibilities assigned to a volunteer will reflect the volunteer’s availability and time commitment.

When will I know if I have been accepted?
Volunteers will be accepted on an as needed basis. We will email you as opportunities become available that we think might interest you. Announcements will be made in early April, but opportunities will continue to arise throughout the summer. Please stay in touch with the Horizons office.

Do I qualify for a volunteer position if I am not yet sixteen years old?

Volunteers must have completed their eighth grade year. While our summer volunteer roles do not involve direct interaction with students, there are still many meaningful ways to contribute. We will have several opportunities throughout the season where your support would be invaluable to the program’s success.
